The basics

What is car insurance?

Car insurance is a contract between you and an insurer. You pay a premium; in return the insurer covers the financial loss when your car is damaged, stolen, or causes injury or damage to someone else.

In India the third-party portion is not optional. Driving without it is an offence — but third-party alone does nothing for your own car. That gap is where most owners get caught out.

Third-party motor cover is mandatory under the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988. Penalties apply for driving uninsured.

Why through us

What we do that a price-comparison box does not

Anyone can list premiums. The work is in the terms underneath them — and in who picks up the phone when you claim.

01

Every quote on one screen

We pull comparable quotes from our partner insurers and line up the premium, IDV, deductible and garage network so you are comparing like with like — not marketing claims.

02

IDV set honestly

A low Insured Declared Value makes a premium look cheap and a claim look disappointing. We show you what your car is actually worth and what that costs.

03

Cashless garage check

Before you buy, we check whether the insurer's network covers garages near your home and your usual route — not just a national count.

04

A human on the claim

Your advisor files the intimation, tracks the surveyor and chases the settlement. You are not left on a helpline queue.

Types of cover

What each policy type actually pays for

Including — and this is the part usually left off the brochure — what it does not.

Third-Party Liability

The legal minimum. Covers injury, death or property damage you cause to another person.

Best for: Older, low-value cars that are rarely driven.

Covered

  • Unlimited liability for third-party injury or death
  • Third-party property damage up to the statutory limit
  • Legal defence costs arising from a covered claim

Not covered

  • Any damage to your own car
  • Theft of your car
  • Damage from fire, flood or riot to your vehicle

Comprehensive

Third-party cover plus damage to your own car from accident, theft, fire and natural calamity.

Best for: Most owners — especially cars under 10 years old.

Covered

  • Everything in third-party liability
  • Accidental damage to your own vehicle
  • Theft, fire, explosion and self-ignition
  • Flood, cyclone, earthquake and other natural events
  • Riot, strike and malicious damage
  • Personal accident cover for the owner-driver

Not covered

  • Normal wear, tear and mechanical breakdown
  • Driving under the influence or without a valid licence
  • Consequential damage (e.g. engine seizure after driving through flood water)
  • Depreciation on parts, unless a zero-depreciation add-on is bought

Standalone Own-Damage

Covers only your own car. Bought alongside an existing long-term third-party policy.

Best for: New cars sold with a bundled multi-year third-party policy.

Covered

  • Accidental damage to your own vehicle
  • Theft, fire and natural calamity
  • Freedom to change insurer each year without touching the TP policy

Not covered

  • Any third-party liability
  • Cars without a valid in-force third-party policy
Add-ons

Riders worth paying for — and the ones that are not

Every add-on raises your premium. We will tell you which ones earn their cost against your specific situation.

Zero depreciation

The insurer pays the full cost of replaced parts instead of deducting for age. Worth it for cars under five years old.

Engine protection

Covers engine and gearbox damage from water ingress or oil leakage — the exact loss a standard policy excludes.

Roadside assistance

Towing, jump-start, flat-tyre help and fuel delivery when you are stranded.

Return to invoice

On total loss or theft, pays the original invoice value instead of the depreciated IDV.

No-claim bonus protection

Lets you make one claim without losing the discount you have built up over claim-free years.

Consumables cover

Pays for oils, coolants, nuts and bolts used during a covered repair — normally excluded.

Claims

How a claim actually runs

Written out plainly, because the moment you need this is the worst possible moment to be reading a policy document for the first time.

01

Tell us immediately

Call your advisor or raise the claim in-app. Same-day intimation matters — late reporting is one of the most common reasons a motor claim gets questioned.

02

File an FIR where needed

Theft, third-party injury and major damage need a police report. We tell you exactly what the insurer will ask for so you file it once, correctly.

03

Surveyor inspection

The insurer appoints a surveyor to assess the damage. Take dated photos before anything is moved or repaired — it protects your assessment.

04

Repair and settlement

Cashless at a network garage, or reimbursement anywhere else. We track the file until the money or the repair is actually done.
